Torsion spring is located above your garage door, its the actual spring that really lift your door, but ever wonder how long it will be able to lift your door ? Still remember when was your garage door system was installed? Well, if you cant remember, no need to worry, since you wont have a broken torsion spring soon, but it is nice to put in mind that torsion springs wont last forever just like all machines. The good thing is that someone from Garage Door Doctor explained that a torsion spring has a cycle, and that cycle is when you open and close your garage door since the spring will lift it up every time you do that.
Garage Door Doctor mentioned that they have torsion springs that will last 15,000 and another will last 50,000 cycles. They say that your torsion spring will last 5 years if you open your garage 8 times a day, but will last 10 years if you only open your door 4 times per day.
So depending on your garage door usage and brand of torsion spring, you will have to repair or replace it 5 or 10 years.
